Raqia Humaidan

Lawyer Raqia Humaidan was born in Aden in 1947 and holds a bachelor's and master's degree in law from the University of London.

She is the first female lawyer in Yemen and the Arabian Peninsula, where she began her work in 1980. She stood in the courts as a courageous, bold, and capable lawyer, and she defended many political cases, the most famous of which is the Dahmas case.

She participated in drafting many laws and agreements at the local and international levels, and she also participated as an observer member in some international bodies on elections in Morocco, Senegal, Nepal, and Palestine. She was also the first female member of the Yemeni Supreme Election Committee in 1993.

She was nominated in 2005, among 1000 women, for the Nobel Peace Prize, and she died in 2017.
