Tawakkol Karman

The lawyer Tawakkol Karman, a journalist and human rights activist from Taiz Governorate, holds a Bachelor's degree in commerce and a postgraduate degree in political science from Sana'a University, as well as an honorary doctorate in international law from the University of Alberta, Canada.

She is the first Yemeni and Arab woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011.

She chaired the "Women Journalists Without Chains" organization and participated in programs and conferences outside Yemen on interfaith dialogue, political reforms in the Arab world, freedom of expression, and anti-corruption efforts.
