Arwa Othman

Writer Arwa Othman, born in Taiz Governorate, is a graduate of the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, University of Sana'a (1989).

She is a writer, journalist, and researcher in heritage and women's rights advocate.

She is passionate about Yemeni heritage and has worked on documenting folk dances, folklore, and local costumes. She heads the House of Folklore.

She served as the Minister of Culture from 2014 to 2015 and has made significant cultural contributions as a short story writer, journalist, and author.

Her book "It Happens in Tenka, the Land of Nams" won first place in the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity.

She has also received other awards, including the "Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism" in 2014 and the Minerva Award in Italy in 2011, which is given to women who excel in knowledge and are role models for professional excellence and outstanding capabilities.
