Adila Ibrahim

Educator and broadcaster Adila Ibrahim, born in Aden in 1934, was the first woman to study abroad, attending the Teachers' College at the University of Omdurman in Sudan in 1948.

Her late mother, Lulah Haidar, was one of the pioneers of education in Aden, and her aunt, Noor Haidar, was a pioneer in girls' education in Aden. Her husband was musician Jamil Ghanem, and her daughter is broadcaster Jamila Jamil.

In 1964, she joined Aden Radio, and in 1968, she joined the BBC, becoming the first Yemeni and possibly Arab woman to join an international radio station.

She passed away in 2023 after a career filled with giving, excellence, and leadership.
